Refugio Bonales is the first and only Mountain Refuge and Nature Reserve in the Park Natural Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche. The area is ideal for year round walking and hiking, and getting up close with nature and wildlife. Combining activity holidays with nature and wildlife guests make the lovely 1.5 hour walk from Arroyomolinos de Leon accompanied by pack mules if needed. The use of motor vehicles is discouraged unless necessary. In this unique setting an endless network of paths starts from your accommodation, which itself is located on the route up to the highest point of the Sierra Morena Occidental (Tentudía Monastery, 1,100 m). From here a series of paths branch out over glorious hill country giving far and spectacular views. Much of the terrain is woodland and open hillsides. At the foot of the highest parts of Huelva (1,057 m. the Bonales) and Badajoz (1,110 m. Monastery Tentudía). The refuge is situated in lush hill country, surrounded by chestnut and oak trees. It is a restoration of an old mountain farmhouse. The refuge is open all year round and has Eco-tourism and Sustainable Certification(Eco-tour)bathroom.
